Program Interns are responsible for implementation of the daily schedule, curriculum, and discipline for their respective programs. Program Interns also act as the face of Fortress YDC as they interact with parents and guardians on a consistent basis, providing direct communication of updates, verbal reminders, and behavioral reports to parents/family of our youth. These interns are also responsible for safe transportation of youth to field trips, Fortress and home on the Fortress vans. There are two types of Program Interns:
- Children’s Interns work directly with children in 1st through 5th grade. Responsibilities include developing relationships with the Fortress kids, social, academic, and spiritual mentoring, managing the daily schedule, daily prep and clean-up, and organization of activities. Reports to Daniel Avaritt, Summer JAM Director.
- Youth Ministry Interns work directly with students in 6th through 8th grade. Responsibilities include developing relationships with the Fortress youth, social, academic, and spiritual mentoring, managing the daily schedule, daily prep and clean-up, and organization of activities. Reports to Daniel Avaritt, Summer JAM Director.
Communications Interns use their writing and design skills to communicate effectively with donors, potential donors, and volunteers. Responsibilities include drafting and editing e-communications (email updates, social networking, blogging); tracking contributions and processing acknowledgments; assisting staff with fundraising initiatives and strategy; and providing administrative assistance when needed. Reports to Stacy Kocur, Director of Communications and Volunteer Programs.
Urban Ministries Interns use their interpersonal and research skills to teach social awareness and to assess the social, educational and physical needs of the students we serve. Responsibilities include leading youth groups through Urban Experience (see Group Manual for description); identifying and developing measurements for program assessment; developing and implementing an interview process to determine individual student strengths, weaknesses and potential resources; and conducting social research as identified. Reports to Terri Henson, Director of Programs and Administration.
