Are you interested in volunteering at Fortress? Below are just some of the ways that you can get involved!
Commit to mentoring a child for one hour a week. You will be matched one-on-one with a child in PreK-8th grade. You might paint nails, play basketball, read, play games, or help with homework, but whatever it is that you end up doing, your main goal is to develop a relationship with your mentee that will foster a sense of well-being and self-worth in that child. To become a mentor, complete the volunteer application.
Photography & Videography
Portraits, videos and candid photography are always needed so that we can better demonstrate to volunteers, parents and donors what Fortress is doing in the community. If you'd like to lend your photography skills to us for a one-time special event or ongoing, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Great for families with children! Join your child in reading to/with one of our younger students. To participate in our read program, complete the volunteer application.
Volunteers are needed every Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-1:00pm in our preschool classroom to assist teachers with teaching, mealtime, playtime and special activities. Weekly or biweekly commitment required to ensure continuity and comfort for our students. To become a preschool assistant, complete the volunteer application.
We offer incentive field trips to reward kids for hard work and good behavior. Consider sponsoring a trip to Six Flags or a Ranger’s game and help expand our students’ life experiences. Contact us for more information.
We can arrange weekend work projects for your group or family. This can be anything from painting to organizing to cleaning to building repairs to setting up for an event. The possibilities are endless! Contact us for more information.
For new volunteers and groups, we strongly recommend participating in our Fortress Tour and Prayer Drive, a two-hour tour of our facilities and neighborhood. Contact us for more information.
Commit as a family or group to saving your spare change, or forgoing one regular outing or frivolous spending each month, and donating the savings to Fortress. Contact us for more information.

Help us by collecting brand-new backpacks, folders, pencils, pencil sharpeners, binders, notebook paper, spiral notebooks, markers, colored pencils, crayons, and pencil bags.
Our kids follow the Fort Worth ISD dress code for elementary schools. Uniform needs include white or navy polo shirts, navy or khaki shorts and skirts, undershirts, belts and socks in all children’s sizes. All donations due in mid-August. Email email@example.com to schedule a drop-off or pick-up.

Trunk or Treat | OCTOBER
Did you know that our kids can't go trick-or-treating in their own neighborhood? For practical reasons (safety and inability for neighbors to buy candy), kids growing up in the Historic Southside have to leave their neighborhood and go trick-or-treating in a strange neighborhood without their friends.
Trunk or Treat volunteers do the following:
Ask your church group, workplace, or friends to join you in bringing a car (or several!) to Fortress that evening.
Decorate your trunk in a (non-scary) Halloween theme.
Bring at least 200 pc. of candy (at our last community event, we had over 120 kids attend!).
Dress up for good measure!
To sign-up to participate in Trunk or Treat, email email@example.com
Run a Thanksgiving Food Drive | OCTOBER-NOVEMBER
Run a Thanksgiving Food Drive to help send our families home with a full Thanksgiving meal. Groups and individuals commit to collecting ONE specific food item (for example, canned green beans, stuffing mix, etc.). Donations must be coordinated through Ethan Weber, Community Relations Coordinator, to ensure all needs are met and not duplicated. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Christmas Wish List | NOVEMBER-DECEMBER
Run a Christmas Wish List drive for Fortress's mentoring and after-school programs. All items on our wish list go towards maintaining our programs.
