Shanique Johnson
TEACHER - Early LEarning Center

Shanique Johnson teaches the 3 year olds at Fortress Early Learning Center each morning, and then transitions to teaching an After School class of Pre3s and 4s each afternoon.

When her father passed away in 2003, Shanique went through a rough couple of years. In 2009, she made an effort to better her life by going to the Workforce Commission in search of a job. When she applied to work at Fortress, she was under the impression that she'd be doing paperwork; she had no idea that she would be working with kids. She took a leap of faith and began working at Fortress over the summer of 2009 at the age of 18, and discovered her calling. She has obtained her Child Development Associates credential and is continuing to grow as a teacher.

Shanique enjoys playing with the kids and goes out of her way to make them feel important. After she began working at Fortress, she came to know the Lord again by attending a church in her neighborhood. Shanique grew up in the same impoverished situation that most of the kids who attend Fortress do, so she is able to relate to the kids and their families.
