Jayna has recently joined Fortress as the Staff Development Coordinator. She oversees curriculum development and implementation in order to help create and sustain a nurturing, growth-oriented environment. She works alongside teachers and students to collaboratively meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of the children who walk through Fortress’ doors.

Jayna served as a public school teacher for seven years before pursuing her doctorate in education at Texas Christian University, where she is currently a PhD candidate in Curriculum Studies. She spends her free time with her husband Brad, her two daughters Erin and Jordan, and her two sons Alex and Deuce. They enjoy the culture and energy of Fort Worth and may be found enjoying a local art show, playing a mean game of cards with friends, or listening to a band play in Sundance Square.

Rarely finding herself on a traditional path in life, Jayna often leans on the promise of Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV), “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future…You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”  Her path has led to Fortress, as she seeks to make connections between the curriculum of schools and after school environments in order to provide a more balanced and cohesive learning experience. She comes to Fortress offering her own experience and education, but more importantly looks to understand and honor the experiences and knowledge of the teachers, parents, staff, and community that makes up the Fortress family. Jayna believes that much of the richness of life is found listening to the story of another, finding connections that build bridges rather than separation. Everyone has a story; what’s yours?
