More Than a Program. We're Family.

Fortress is more than an organization, a program, a building, and even a family. To some of us, Fortress is our only breath of fresh air in an overflowing cruel world. Fortress taught me 1 Cor 13:4, the scripture that speaks on love. "Love is patient, kind, does not anger, does not boast, it is not proud, it keeps no records of wrongs...." I live by that scripture and sadly, Fortress and maybe two other people, of my 32 years, are the only ones to fit the definition perfectly.

Fortress goes above and beyond to help our children. You never hear them brag, boast, or keep any kind of records. I know firsthand as a Fortress kid and now as a Fortress mother. Growing up, when I first saw this group of individuals, it showed me something my peers have never seen before - people who help from their heart and not from their mouths. It was new, it was unbelievable, it was shocking, but it was always real. That’s why the legacy STUCK for all of these years. What is real will always remain.

As a single mother, Fortress is the biggest help that I have. I can only do so much as a mom. I love to believe I have special mom powers, but it’s only so much that I can do. Fortress helps me with my children. They pick up where I slack. I know with my children experiencing this love, this movement, I am doing them right and preparing them for a world that is not so accepting, but it shows them that these kinds of people do exist. Fortress is more than an organization, its my children's example of what God expects from us. That goes far beyond the 8th grade. I love y’all.  - Erica Gentry

“I started here when I was about ten or eleven and ever since then, my life and relationship with God has been better. Hopefully, my children will be the same, if not better. Fortress is truly our second family.”
-Keisha G.

“Fortress has basically been a partner to me. This program is giving me much needed assistance that is nowhere near what I am able to pay for at this time.” -Brittany P.

“This is a place where my grandson can come and be around people who love God and teach him good things about the things of life. My grandson is five; his father and his uncle went here, too. Fortress has been a blessing to our family!!!” -Leslie S.

“There is a great staff. It reminds me of when I used to come here.” -Marceles F.

“Fortress means the world to me and my children. They have watched us grow into the family we are today with a lot of love and prayer. Throughout my ups and downs they have been there so I look at that like Fortress is my second family.” -Chelsea H.

“Fortress helps my family in so many ways. They help instill Christian beliefs that I am teaching at home. They also help teach my children great leadership skills, responsibility, and ingenuity. I really don’t know where I would be without them. Fortress Youth Development Center ROCKS!!” -Michelle S.

United by a common goal: to love our kids and their families.
