When I first heard about Fortress Youth Development Center a few years ago, I had no idea of the impact this program would make on my life. Before coming to Fortress for the first time about a year ago, I had my own perspective on poverty, a perspective of someone who had never been subjected to poverty first hand. While on this trip, my eyes were truly opened for the first time. I realized the reality of what those smiling faces of the kids involved in this program experience everyday. This Youth Development Center really is a "Fortress" for the urban youth of Fort Worth. I am so grateful that they have a place where they not only further their education, but also build a strong relationship with our Lord.

This past week, I have had the opportunity to be a buddy to the Ukraine group which included the second and third graders. The kids in this group are so eager to learn and full of excitement. They have truly been a joy to be around this week.

In my opinion, Fortress Youth Development Center serves as a great volunteer opportunity for young adults. This is an amazing program, and I am so glad that I have had a chance to be a part of it.
