Volunteer Group Spotlight - Jansen Sharp of Legacy Church of Christ

"My experiences this year as a volunteer did not differ from last year. The kids were just as loving, caring and crazy as last year.

I had the wonderful privilege of having four 4-6 year olds. The first one is named Zoeharrah, a motherly, lady-like sass-master. The next is Jayden, a quiet but crazy boy who works diligently. The next is LJ; he just loves to play at free time, and when it's time to read a Bible story, he listens intently. And lastly, there's Trent. Trent not only holds a special place in my heart because of his friendliness and liking of soccer, but also because he taught me something. He taught me to love everybody with all that you have and to have fun in a bad situation.

I don't think that I could live in poverty simply because, with my parents divorced, my mom was left with a little over enough to support herself and me. I thought that we had it hard, but my perspective changed when I heard how much some of the families at Fortress live with each month. It just blew my mind. When you're already living in poor conditions and most of your money is just going to rent, it makes it tough to buy groceries and other necessities.

I definitely believe that God put me here to be a light in the kids' lives and to keep myself busy.

"Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies make thy way straight before my face." - Psalm 5:8"
