Compassion Towards Others

My buddy's are Chasity, Sa'Niya, Darrien, Michael, and Omar. All of them are great buddies and I enjoy being with them through the day. Omar and I both became close buddies on the first day. I started hurting from laughing so hard because he constantly called me Patrick Star from Spongebob. One thing that surprised me about my buddies is how well behaved they all are. We go through each day with few problems in behavior which in turn resulted in rewards for the kids in points and a better time had by all. One of the funniest things I heard today was all the kids singing the potato chip song and just having a good time.

As of todayI have done every Urban Experience that we are doing this week. They were really great experiences and I learned a lot from them. The main thing that surprised me was when we were on the homeless walk. It surprised me because I had some really good conversations with people and it just really made me understand who they really were. These people were great people and I would love to sit down and talk with them again.

My favorite experience here so far has been working with the kids. It's a great feeling because when they look at you and smile you know that you make an impact on their lives. I feel that God sent me to Fortress to help me be more of a leader and more compassionate towards others. Psalms 23 really represents my week here because it just relates to leadership and to trusting in God.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right path
for his namesake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil
for you are with me;
Your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
